Key Stage 1 Autumn Term

Autumn Term

Class 4 have had a fantastic half term and have made lots of progress. We have enjoyed looking at different materials and their properties in Science. In Literacy we have enjoyed reading some traditional fairy tales including ‘Little Red Riding Hood’, ‘The Three Little Pigs’ and ‘Goldilocks and The Three Bears’. We have visited Tandle Hill Country Park,  Manchester’s China Town and Hollingworth Lake to feed the ducks. This week has been very busy as it has been ‘Creativity Week’ with the theme of ‘Chinese New Year’. We have had lots of fun making fans, dragons, clay tiles, drums, lucky envelopes, food and performing a Chinese Dragon Dance. We are looking forward to a well deserved rest and the Summer term!!

Class 5 have continued to work hard in 2015. Our topic this term has been ‘Tell me a tale…’ The children have been learning about traditional tales such as Goldilocks and the Three Bears and The Little Red Hen. Children had lots of fun tasting the different kinds of porridge and learning how to make bread! In History, we have been learning all about a local artist called Lowry. We visited the Touchstones Art Gallery to look at different kinds of paintings and created some of our own! We have also visited Bleakholt Animal Sanctuary to learn about Animals and where they live and how we can help if animals do not have a home. In Maths, we have learnt all about money and why we need it. The children have enjoyed role-play in Class 5’s Fruit and Vegetable Shop and singing counting songs such as ‘5 currant buns in a bakers shop’. We had an exciting end to the term as it was creativity week. The children worked with different teachers in school on a variety of Chinese New Year inspired activities. Another big well done to Sarim who was awarded Pupil of the half term for making fantastic progress with his communication skills.
