The Wallabies have had a busy first half term back in school and the children have settled into their new class really well. We have been looking at nursery rhymes and stories in English and really enjoyed our work about Old McDonald. As part of this work we all had the chance to visit a pet store, where we got to see and stroke different animals like rabbits, guinea pigs, geckos and snakes!
We have also been learning about our class animal, the Wallaby and looking at Australia (where it comes from), decorating flags and boomerangs in art and making Anzac biscuits in the food technology room.
In Science we have been exploring sounds and where they come from around school, investigating a wide range of different sources of sound. One thing everyone has really enjoyed is our messy play experiences, exploring materials like mashed potato, shaving foam and painting with different body parts!
We have had a very busy last half term in the Wallaby class! In our English lessons we have been looking at extended stories and we have focused on ‘Charlie And The Chocolate Factory’ where we have taken part in a sensory story each lesson. We have also had lots of fun with the different sweets and drinks from the story and created some brilliant art work!
In Maths, we have been learning about ‘Five Wicked Witches’ , we made our own witches hat, made a bubbling
potion in our witches cauldron and explored different spells in the cauldron too...not all of them were very nice!
Our theme this half term has been ‘The Great Outdoors’ and we have been working towards our Teddy Bear’s Picnic. We have tried different foods and created our own menu based on what the class liked, we have also designed and made our own picnic rug and placemats! We looked at different outdoor environments around school and took a trip to Heaton Park too. All we need now is some nice weather!
It was great to have parents join us for sports day this half term too! All the children really enjoyed participating in the different events and racing around the playground against each other!
Hope you all have a lovely summer!!
