Springside Hub learners

Learners at Springside @ Littleborough are within our Investigative phase. Within this phase, learners investigate the world around them within a more formal learning environment. They begin to make links and develop their communication skills to explore, explain and discuss ideas and concepts. The aim of each area of learning is to provide learners with the skills, concepts and knowledge needed to meaningfully engage with the world around them.

Developing an understanding and expression of feelings and emotions is central to learning within this provision. Learners are encouraged to form secure relationships with adults and peers, develop resilience and feel increasingly confident in sharing their feelings. Learners’ strengths and interests are recognised and nurtured, supporting the development of self-esteem and pride, while also celebrating the achievements of others.

Learners engage in a broad range of experiences, with topic-focused learning that reflects both personal interests and new ideas and themes. Teaching and learning are developed through a range of interactive Areas of Learning, including My Independence, My Play and Leisure, My World and My Physical and Well-being. These areas encourage curiosity, discovery and a sense of wonder, while supporting the application of skills in meaningful contexts.

Classes offer a needs-based curriculum, using a combination of child-led approaches informed by EYFS principles, alongside more formal teaching approaches where appropriate. Learning is carefully adapted to develop learners’ skills in investigation, expression and increasing independence. Each learner’s capabilities are fully considered, and individual needs are supported educationally, socially, emotionally and physically. Where appropriate, this includes elements of the National Curriculum, delivered in line with individual need and readiness.

Classes in this phase are Canaries and Dolphins.
